Firstly, you’ll probably realised that I never carried on from my previous post.. this will come though at some point! Just at the moment i’m so busy out here its unbelievable.

The reason why i’m so busy is because me and Leon are finally getting away with the business idea that has been brewing since we were in Skiathos, so were talking about an idea thats been brewing a good 4-5 months now.

I’m not going to go into detail about the entire idea on my blog, or at least try and keep as much under wraps as i can until later on in the development stage. All that we’re currently giving away is that it’s an internet kiosk idea, with other services included that should be very marketable out here and in other holiday locations.

that kinda kiosk for those who are still wondering.

Anyway, thought I should blog about how i’m getting on with it all and should give me a bit of motivation and maybe some feedback on where i’m going with it all at the moment.

Even though it probably sounds a bit sad, i’m actually really excited about doing all the code for this project, to be fair were both fairly excited about the whole thing as it seams like one of those once in a lifetime opportunities that you’ve gotta go for and if it works out as planned it will make life a lot easier in the future.

I mean sure I could get a normal job doing programming back in England for a decent wage and work my way up the ladder, or even get a programming job out here in Cyprus.. I’ve always said I didn’t really want to have my own business, at least not straight away and would rather get a bit of experience with a big player in the IT world to start with. Thing is I might still be able to do that later on in life and even if I don’t the kiosks may be successful enough so I don’t have to bother!

We’re at the very initial stages of the business at the moment, although things have been moving very fast in the last week or so since I got my PC brought out here. That’s all I really need to be able to work on stuff, just a PC and an internet connection! I mean since I’ve had my PC out here this week, I’ve had 2 people wanting to know if I can build a website for their business which is nice as that should be a little bit of extra cash in the back burner.

Some of you will probably have heard about the internet cafe idea as well, this was basically just a foot in the door and a base to work from and get a reputation from. It was a good idea that Gary the person willing to invest in our kiosk idea came up with, but unfortunately after looking around at places to buy or rent it turned out to be a lot more expensive and probably not profitable, especially with the winter months fast approaching.

So we have

  • Home to work from
  • PC to code on (all be it with no case.. just PC components scattered across the table and turned on)
  • Internet connection on the way

What we don’t have at the moment is lots of cash to support us during the 4-6 months its going to take to get these Kiosks up and running off the ground, so for that we are starting importing some goods to Cyprus such as mobile phones.. this is another of those ideas we talk about but don’t expect to actually do.. but tomorrow we’ll be making a large order of mobiles and then selling them from an internet cafe we often use and a few pubs and supermarkets via posters and brochures and dummy phones.

So far with the development side of the software all i’ve done is LOTS of research and a little bit of coding to get back into the flow of things! (which took a while)

We’ve found someone to design the actual kiosk housing as well back in the UK, so thats sounding promising.

Sure a few of you are thinking, so Dave’s doing all this coding.. what is Leon doing?.. lots! threes loads of stuff to do apart from the coding which become apparent when you understand the services that we will be providing, so he’s off sorting all that out and also the marketing of the product as well as sourcing these mobile phones (legally)

Not much more I can think to say at the moment, its almost 2 in the morning and didn’t get to sleep until 5 in the morning last night! Also got another early start tomorrow as we’ve gotta get up and meet Gary at 12 and also talk to the phone supplier, who wakes up in a few hours! :-(

Final thought is that I’m sat in a random guys house that we know, in his office using my PC (which is sprawled all over his desk) and he lets us just use his internet all day.

His names Dave and hes a top driller, who works on the oil rigs. He seams really into our idea as well and he’s always commenting on how we seam to be constantly working when we’re here!

Tomorrow

  • Talk to supplier
  • Meet Gary
  • Post some stuff
  • Order internet (from some random shop)
  • Finish brochure
  • Test programs that I downloaded today
  • MORE research!

Looking like another busy long one!

Hope its not a really boring blog! not wrote one in a while, or wrote much on a PC for that matter!
